Is CBD a Drug?

CBD, also known as Cannabidiol is a chemical part of the Cannabis sativa plant. Because CBD comes from cannabis, a lot of people ask whether or not it is considered a drug. There are no psychoactive properties in CBD, meaning it won’t get you high.

Is CBD a Drug?

Currently, there are no drug tests that test for CBD. On the other hand, certain CBD products that contain trace amounts of THC can possibly show up on a test. There are several factors that can contribute to this. Knowing what type of CBD you should use, depending on whether or not you are subject to drug testing is important.

  • Topical CBD products, like creams, do not enter the bloodstream, so it is unlikely to show anything.
  • Consumable CBD such as gummies and tinctures get a little dicier. This is due to the fact that when you take oral or sublingual CBD, it does enter your bloodstream.
  • The type of CBD you consume also depends on this. There are “full-spectrum CBD” products that contain less than .03% of THC. “CBD isolate” products do not contain any THC.
  • Depending on how often you use CBD, it can stay in your body for 2-7 days.

Is CBD Legal?

With the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, CBD became federally legal throughout the United States. The production, possession and sale of CBD is legal. However, depending on what state you’re in, certain CBD products may not be allowed.

While legal, CBD is not federally regulated, meaning there are restrictions around certain products. It cannot be sold as a dietary supplement or infused in food. All CBD products must have less than .03% THC.

Always Check Your Sources

It’s always a good idea, when shopping for CBD, to buy from brands that are transparent and have their lab reports easily available; primarily on their website. Check out our lab reports here!
