How Do I Choose the Right CBD Product

Have you been interested in trying CBD but aren’t sure where to start? Since the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, the industry has exploded. Now, there are a variety of CBD products being sold all over the country and for those that haven’t ventured into the territory it can be overwhelming deciding where to start.

Everyone has different needs for their day-to-day and reasons why they want to incorporate CBD into their life. This is a reason so many products have become available. We at CBD Essentials know this; it's why our product catalog provides solutions to a variety of needs and lifestyles. Now we’ve created a guide to help you choose the CBD Product that’s just right for you.

Does CBD have THC?

Simply put, yes but not enough to have a psychoactive effect on you. You WON’T get high. If you are purchasing a CBD product in a non-recreational state, it cannot exceed more than .3% of THC; a trace amount that has little-to no effect.

Recreational marijuana is only legal in 11 states as of now which means, if you’re not living and purchasing from local dispensaries in those states. Regulations mandate that products with enough THC to affect you must contain a clear label and can only be sold to people that are 21 & over.

Since this is a common concern amongst most CBD newbies it’s best to address it first.

Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum and Isolate

This refers to the method of extraction. It’s important to become familiar with these terms as you will see them often while perusing different CBD shops online and locally. Luckily, we broke it down for you here:

Full Spectrum

Includes a high concentration of CBD along with other cannabinoids, terpenes and trace amounts of THC.

Broad Spectrum

Includes a high concentration of CBD along with other cannabinoids, terpenes and all amounts of THC are removed.

Isolate

Purest form of CBD, primarily found in a sugary or crystalized form. Contains 99% CBD and no other plant compounds or THC.

Dosage

CBD dosing is important to explore before you purchase to avoid wasting money on a product that might not work for you. Finding your perfect dose is a personal journey and depends on a variety of factors.

A great place to start is to ask yourself why you are looking to use CBD in the first place and go from there. Common dosages range from 20-40mg in a serving, but this is ultimately research + trial and error.

Method of Consumption

We have a whole guide on different ways to take CBD. This is another personal decision that depends on what works best for your day-to-day routine, as well as what specifically you’re looking to use CBD for.

There are 4 main ways of CBD consumption: Ingestion, Sublingual, Topical and Vaporization.

Would you like a sweet gummy or a tasteless capsule? Does body oil sound better or a thick cream? Or maybe you’d rather drop some oil into your mouth once, twice a day. CBD Essentials products range within most of these.

How To Choose the Right CBD Brand

Now that you’ve figured out what specific product you are looking for, it’s time to determine what makes a trustworthy CBD brand that you want to purchase from. There are some key items you can look at to determine whether or not a CBD company is selling you a legitimate product.

Third-Party Lab Reporting

A legit CBD company is usually going to send their products to an offsite lab to be inspected and tested for quality, safety, and product potency. This is another way to give consumers peace of mind if they choose to buy that brand.

CBD Essentials products are all lab tested and you can view our reports here.

Bioavailability

This refers to the percentage of a particular substance you are taken is absorbed into your bloodstream. CBD bioavailability is how much CBD your bloodstream will absorb.

Method of consumption and dosage determines the bioavailability you will get. Typically, sublingual consumption is the fastest way to feel effects.

CBD Sourcing

If the company you are looking into isn’t transparent about where their CBD comes from, you might want to look at another option. You want to make sure you’re buying from sustainable and ethical sources to know it’s a high-quality product. Most legitimate USA CBD brands source their materials from US Farmers that are regulated by the USDA.

Packaging and Labeling

This is important to consider because companies that sell high-quality CBD are going to have great product packaging that aligns with the product. For example, if you are looking for a tincture, it will most likely be sold in a glass dropper bottle.

The product label should have all the necessary information clearly listed; these are the questions you should be able to see answers for on the label:

  • How many milligrams of CBD does the product contain?
  • What are the additional ingredients?
  • How To Use
  • Expiration Date

Customer Service

This isn’t exclusive to CBD of course, but noteworthy. Does the brand you are looking at have a clear shipping and return policy? Is their customer support information easily accessible? Do they have a good reputation in reviews?

By now you’ve probably already answered why you want to try CBD. We realize there is so much to consider. The journey of finding and buying the right CBD product for you doesn’t have to be a daunting one if you connect with the right company.
